Product Care

Stormshield Shell & Stormshield Ultralight

All our shell jackets are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating for added protection.

To keep your shell performing at its best, wash it only when necessary. As a general guideline, this means washing it when it is visibly dirty or when you notice a drop in water repellency, typically after 4 to 5 heavy uses.

Always use detergents formulated specifically for technical outerwear (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash or reputable outdoor brands like Grangers).

Regular household or powdered detergents can significantly degrade the DWR layer and shorten the jacket’s lifespan. For day-to-day care, a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is more than enough.

Step 1: Prepare

Hand cleaning a waterproof shell surface with a gray cloth
  • Wipe away dirt and debris
  • Empty pockets
  • Close all zips
  • Release all drawstings

Step 2: Wash

  • Rinse your washing machine on an empty cycle to clear any leftover detergent before loading in the Stormshield Shell.

  • Use a technical detergent (preferably one that is designed for waterproof gear). We recommend NikWax Tech Wash.

  • Wash twice with low spin

Washing machine settings

  • 30-40°C
  • Low to no spin (to avoid friction)
  • Set an initial rinse cycle to ensure no detergent left

Step 3: Tumble Dry & Re-activate DWR

  • Heat is extremely important to reactivate your shell's water-repellant properties

  • Tumble dry on low heat for 40 minutes or until fully dry and warm

Step 4: Re-apply DWR (if needed)

  • If you notice the face fabric starting to “wet out” (when water no longer beads on the surface), even after washing and heat re-activation, that is completely normal for all shells after regular use.

  • To restore its water repellency, simply reapply a fresh DWR treatment.

  • We recommend the Nikwax TX Direct Spray On and/or the Nikwax TX Direct Wash-in

Trail Flex Convertible Pants

Our Trail Flex Convertible Pants are designed with a water-resistant finish to help protect against light rain and splashes.

Technical wash is not required for these pants. However, we still recommend washing them gently and avoiding harsh detergents to help preserve their water-resistant properties over time.

Step 1: Prepare

  • Wipe away dirt and debris
  • Empty pockets
  • Close all zips
  • Loosen all straps and chords

Step 2: Wash

  • We recommend using a delicate wash cycle (30-40°C)

Step 3: Dry

  • Tumble dry on low heat to rejuvenate water-resistant properties

Trail Base Merino

Merino wool is stain resistant, odour resistant and anti-bacterial – meaning it requires less washing. But when you do need to wash it, its really easy!

How to wash your merino wool

  • Turn your merino wool inside out.
  • Wool garments should be washed on wool setting (usually gentle at 40°C).
  • If you do not have a wool cycle, use cold water wash or wash on the delicate setting.
  • Use neutral, mild detergent.

How to dry merino wool

  • It is recommended to avoid machine drying merino wool, as high heat can easily shrink, warp, or damage the delicate fibers.
  • Instead, lay the shirt flat to air dry, away from direct sunlight or heat sources like radiators, to maintain its shape and quality.

How to store merino wool

  • It is recommended to store your merino wool folded.
  • Avoid hanging it among other clothing to prevent stretching and friction which will lead to pilling of your wool garments.
